Lanan nodded as he sharply made the turn after her. I wonder if the princess will come with us... he thought, his eyes serious as they ran through the wind.

 

The harpoons collided with the dragon's neck. Some managed to break through the armor like scales, others didn't. The dragon wailed in pain and swiped randomly through the air with it's claws. I managed to knock out one of the lesser sails. Blood dripped down it's neck and into the water.
"Cut the ropes!" Hester commanded. That might take care of the second dragon. These creatures were cannibals and went crazy from the scent of blood.
The ropes to the harpoons were cut just in time, because a split second later, a third dragon appeared and took a bite out of the first's neck. The second dragon, on the other side, took that moment to rise out of the water.
That not be good. The Harpoons still be needing reloading.

 

"I don't care who or what is after us," Eleanor grumbled, pulling a cloth out of the pack and tying it around her face just under her eyes to breathe through. "I will get a bath after this." She pulled another handkerchief-sized cloth out of the bag and handed it to Tristan.

 

Tristan laugh as he graciously took the handkerchief and tied it around his nose. "Just one bath? I'll probably take a dozen."

 

Eleanor nodded vigorously in agreement. "So..." she sighed, her voice a little more serious now. "What do you plan to do when they bring your sister back?"

 

Aduial shifted her focus of aim to the second dragon. Hopefully the third wouldn't mind taking care of the second as well. After Aidou had magicked her arrow, she loosed it for the second dragon's soft spot - just under the jaw.

In the back of his mind, Aidou was silently thankful that it was dark; he'd be useless if the sun was out.

 

Tristan thought for a good while before answering. "I'm going to train her. She'll need to be a skilled fighter if we truly are up against demons."

The arrow sank into the dragons Jaw, making it hiss from what must have felt like being poked by a needle. Slowly the dragon turned its sights in the direction that the arrow flew from.

 

"Aidou! Can you freeze the water in its tear ducts?" Aduial knotched two arrows.

"I'll see what I can do," Aidou replied. He raised his hands in the air towards the second dragon. Focusing as much as he could with all the commotion around him. With more effort than he was used to having to put forth, Aidou froze over one of dragon's eyes.

 

The dragon began to thrash about because of the pain. It then opened it's mouth breathed on the ship. The air became cold. A few sailors became frozen in ice.

Hester widened his eyes, "I be not aware that they could do such a thing."

 

Gemini realized the princess's scent was getting stronger as they ran and she put in another burst of speed, happy to think that they might get to her so quickly.

 

Lanan raised his eyebrows, surprised at Gemini's sudden accelaration. She really wants to find this girl, he thought, actually struggling to keep pace. Oh well, we did say time's a factor.

 

"Demons..." Eleanor repeated slowly, thinking. "I know you trust that man's word on it, so I do, too... but it's still too unreal to me. My mother told me the old stories when I was younger, but that's all she ever made them to be: stories."

 

Changing the position of his hands, Aidou heated back to a tolerable level. It was a slight waste of energy he knew, but the sailors and Aduial could focus a bit better now.

Giving Aidou silent thanks, Aduial loosed the two arrows she'd knotched into the dragon's eye.

Sameire pulled harder against the man's grip on her wrist, and got free this time. Her wrist was sore, but nothing she coudn't deal with.

 

The dragon clawed at its good eye after both arrows made contact. It was thrashing about wildly.

"Alrighty lads. We be getting out of here before the third dragon remembers us."

Tristan agreed that it seemed far fetched but still... "It doesn't hurt to be prepared.

 

Aduial put the arrow that she was about to hook back into the quiver on her back. She lowered her bow, watched the dragons for a moment longer, and then quickly went to Aidou.

"I'm fine," Aidou answered Aduial's unasked question. "Admittedly, a bit tired, but fine."

Aduial let out a sigh of relief. "We've never done anything like that before."

"I'm well aware of that," Aidou replied, brushing a lock of hair from his face. He looked to the frozen sailors. "It's a shame really. If they'd just been injured, they could have been a good snack."

"Aidou," The Cylian pointed to Hester. "You shouldn't say things like that in front of him."

 

Hester pretended not to hear Aidou. "You two best stay out here. We may be needing more help."

 

Aidou folded his arms over his stomach. "We'll stay." He assured the captain.

Aduial look from her Vampire friend to Hester. "I'm sorry about your crew."

 

"No need to be sorry. They did be knowing what they be getting into when they became part of me crew. Shame that we be not able to bury them though." said Hester sadly.

 

"What are you saying?" Aduial asked, confused. "When we reach land..." She paused, hoping that her offer wouldn't be too far fetched. "I could Mold them graves."

Aidou's head snapped to look at Aduial. Did she seriously plan to bury humans on Sin Isle?

 

"True," Eleanor agreed. "Well, now we have a place to rest, but how we are going to manage it is another story."
