Gemini stuck out her tounge at him childishly while he caught up. "Don't tempt me." she said, smirking as she set her sights on the gates and tried to stay ahead.

 

Time to cheat! Lanan thought as wind started circling his legs. "Ha!" he yelled as he jumped forward, the wind blasting him further, and extended an arm to touch the gate, shortly before Gemini. "Looks like I won," he said, out of breath.

When Gemini reached him she was panting and couldn't catch her breath. "You are a cheating old man." she grinned. "That's the best run I've had in forever!" she declared, seeming to have gotten over being beaten, when she got her breath back.

 

Lanan smiled and replied, "Yeah same here. I can't remember the last time I had that much fun. And I would NEVER cheat!" Turning around, Lanan looked at the gate. "Looks like they're clos-" He was interrupted by a glowing red light around his neck. "Ruby?" He asked as the jewel around his neck floated and Ruby came out.
"Massster Luna, may I roam free again? My tail'sss better." Ruby said in a slighty pathetic tone. She hated being confined in a jewel.
Lanan looked at her, a little shocked at the mood of her voice. He glanced at her tail. The stone part was smaller, but still there. "You already know the problem with that, Ruby..." He said, hesitantly.
Ruby looked down and shifted into her human form. "But I can still function in this body." She rubbed her left thigh. Her pants were made of the scales from her true form. Where a pocket would normally be, there was a stone patch that was not just part of her pants, but her skin as well. "I'll just be a little slower, Master." She turned her head as she talked and noticed they reached the next town.
"Alright," Lanan said. He didn't see any harm in it.
"Thank you," Ruby bowed her head. Something she felt was below her, but she did it to show her master she was grateful. Looking at Gemini, Ruby tried to smile. "Hello again," she said while thinking that she might as well get used to Lanan's new companion.

 

Eleanor managed to smirk through the pain in her ankle. "Getting something to save his life," she muttered, yanking the pack of medicine off her back. She gave Nas a satisfied grin. "Want to give me a hand helping him out?"

She pulled one of the phials out of the pack and showed it to Nas. "This is for pain, but I guess he'll have to be conscious to drink it. In the meantime, use all of this you think should heal his wound..." Eleanor took the small sack with the poultice in it from the bag and pulled the drawstring to open it. "Spread it on his side and we can bind it with these strips of cloth."

 

Nas stared suspiciously at the bag. No matter what her master said, she had trouble trusting Miss Eleanor. Perhaps it was just her nature to be as such. Then again, perhaps not. But whatever the case, she knew that there was something about Eleanor that she did not like.
Nas opened her mouth to make a rude comment only to shut it quickly soon after. Panic washed over her. Something was wrong, but what?
Nas stared at Tristan. It was something to do with him. It felt as though an aura, that had been with him, had vanished. Nas puzzled over what that missing aura could have been. That's when it hit her.
"Master is no longer carrying his object of great power. It's gone!" Nas was horrified. What kind of pathetic summon was she to have not noticed this earlier? Master would kill her for this, she just knew it! Nas stood up and began to tremble.

 

Eleanor frowned, confused. "What do you mean, Nas?" she asked. "What object of great power? I don't understand." She sunk her fingers into the paste in the drawstring bag and pulled up Tristan's shirt so she could see his wound. She spread the medicine gently over the open cut and the bruised, discolored area around it.

 

"Damn it!" Ras'tepa slammed his fists on the King's desk, unintentionally breaking it. The book that was on it fell to the ground and the mirror also hit the floor, shattering. Looking at the shards of glass that covered the floor of the King's room along with all the jewels and fractured jewels, he thought about how just a few hours ago he was relaxing peacefully in the garden, thinking about his new alliance with Azazel and Alira. He had come back to the King's quarters and read the book front-to-back and hadn't learned anything new. Six jewels to seal the Demons and each were sent to a Fairrel clan or human kingdom, but it didn't say who had specifically received them. 5 powerful creatures known as Summons who had the power to fight the Demons were sealed into gems, but it didn't state how to release the Summons or where they were located. The book didn't even state anything about the Angelens. All the details were about battles that were fought during the war, but nothing helpful. "I need to get as much information as possible...and soon..." he said to himself as the King's body trembled.
Inside his head, Bryne realized he felt weaker. What's happening to me? he thought while also wondering what Ras'tepa was planning.

"His secret object that he revealed to us. The object that he had locked in a box. His crystal.... I can not sense his crystal!"

 

"Is that bad?" Eleanor asked. "I'm not sure I understand much about crystals. Just help me bind his wound or... something to help him! Wake him up, Nas... do something to get him conscious to drink this medicine!"

Eleanor pulled the roll of bandages out of the bag and began to wrap them around Tristan's torso, tight enough to keep the salve in place and still let him breathe.

 

Nas tried to get a hold of herself, but she was having trouble doing so. Nas had several nasty experiences in the past when she ended up failing her master. Their punishments were harsh, and sometimes painful. Just the thought of how Tristan would react, when he found out, brought fear to her.
Nas bit her lip and shook her head. "I have no abilities that can wake Master."

 

Eleanor thought quickly, panic rising in her. Alright, she thought. We can do this...

"Okay," she said aloud to Nas. "That's alright, I didn't mean any disrespect."

She looked down at Tristan, putting a hand to his cheek. "Hey," she muttered. "Hey, you need to wake up, Tristan. Nas and I need you to get up!" She shook his shoulders, his head lolling from side to side. "Get up and do what you have to do! You can't be sick, you can't die! Please, wake up!"

 

Gemini smiled back at Ruby, "Hi again. Are you feeling better?" she asked, thinking that was why she was being less snappish.

 

Tristan stood alone in the darkness, shivering in the cold. Where am I? What's going on?

An echoing voice came from nowhere. "Tristan....... Oh Tristan........."

"Who's there? Show yourself." Tristan turned to and fro, squinting in the darkness, hoping to catch a glimpse of whoever was calling his name.

The voice began to chuckle. "Tristan Alzeire. It is not your time to die yet. I still need you to help to bring about this world's destruction. Wake up."

Tristan awoke suddenly. He was still shivering. Was he dreaming?

 

"Hm," Ruby bluntly replied as she nodded, immediately looking away from Gemini and towards the gate, before looking back at Lanan, "Is this the next town?"
Lanan nodded and crossed his arm, leaning on the gate. "Looks like they closed it for the night. We have three options," his tail swayed in the wind as he spoke, "One, we wait til morning when it opens. Two, we can go around town. Or three, we can jump the gate. It's not that high," He said while looking up. Well, at least not for us...

 

Gemini looked up the gate as well, thinking over their options. "Well we can't just go around if you wanted to search the town, so I guess it all depends on how tired we all are." she replied, looking back to the two. "Do we want to just camp out here or jump in and find somewhere to sleep there?"

 

Lanan looked at Gemini and Ruby, who was looking back at him. He was tired from the run, but not too tired. He had been so active the last few days, that run barely affected him. He didn't want to go around so that only left two choices. "It'd be better to go through town while the people are awake, we'd have a better chance of finding information. But I don't mind waiting or going inside. I was healed recently and the healer put me in a sleep, so I don't really need that much rest." He looked at Ruby's leg and then at her face.
Knowing he wanted a response, Ruby replied, "Being stationary won't make my leg heal any faster. I'll do whatever you want to do."
Lanan nodded. Sometimes Ruby's servitude was a little annoying, especially when making decisions like this. "So I guess it's up to you, little girl," he said with a half-smile towards Gemini, "Over the gate, or camp out?"

 

"If you can do it, old man, I certianly can." Gemini replied, returning the smile before looking to Ruby. "But I don't think it will be good for your leg to jump over. No matter how easy jumping is, that's still a long way to fall." she said more seriously, "It won't be long until it's light out and people wake up, let's just camp here."

 

Lanan held back a frown. He wasn't sure why, but he did want to get started right away. He assumed it was because he was still energized from the run. "Alright, guess we're camping out," he said as he fell into a seating position. Instead of sleeping under a tree like usual, he figured staying as close to the gate as he could would be best.
Ruby knew she could easily make the jump and if she couldn't, she could still climb it, but nonetheless, she kept quiet. She looked at the town and felt strange. There was a strange presence coming from it, something familiar.
