I've been thinking about a new optional rule to try to cut down on how quick and negatey the upper level duels are, that would also help to even things out elsewhere, so I figured I'd post it.

The way I see it, one of the larger problems is that people can always have the perfect counter to what their opponent is trying to do, no matter what they do. If they want to use heavy storm, you can use starlight road, but if they don't that same card can just as easily be a jar of greed.

It seems to me it would add another layer of strategy if instead of picking what you use when you used it, you picked what you drew when you drew it. So if you decided when you drew your first hand "I want a starlight road in case they use heavy storm" you would actually have a card locked down as Starlight Road. This would make people use more versatile strategies, using more generic cards like Magic Jammer, because they couldn't always have the specific counter. It would also add to each player's ability to make epic moves, because the enemy could only negate so far as they could predict, and it would require people to stay on their toes, as if they got too predictable they'd be at a large disadvantage.

Any suggestions/opinions/comments would be nice, and it would of course be an optional thing set in the terms rather than replacing the way we normally do things here.

    Fred, I just remembered...

Jaden banned all those Hand seeing cards because he didn't want them to be revealed...
can this mean that Jaden might not like this idea?
though it may just be him not wanting hands to be seen...

Edit:I guess it being optional helps lol..
    keep forgetting it was optional...

the reason he did that was because if you pick when you use them, one side gets a massive advantage by forcing the other to pick when they draw. If both were picking when they drew, it would even out.

It might even allow cards like that not to be as broken, as you'd be spending resorces trying to get a glimpse of your opponent's strategy, and if they were to destroy your hand viewer if it were continuous, then use cards like Graceful to dump stuff that you'd decided to draw the specific counters for, you'd be out of luck.

Question is, can people keep up with their hand?
it might get confusing and they may forget what cards were in it...
especialy when duels can last days here...
although with the picking what you draw rule being optional..I guess it should have been decided before the duel starts.

Memory would be an issue, yes.. If you were playing it out with real cards, that would help, but of course not everyone does that, and in some cases, like custom cards, that would be impossible. You could use an article in notepad to keep track of your hand, field, and grave, or you could keep a pencil and paper by your computer when you play.

I see nothing else wrong with this rule...
it seems like a great idea to help make this duel arena actually more entertaining...
it may even lower the chances of cheapness!
now we wait for the others to comment on this.

This seems like Random dueling, but you still pick your cards. Its like a mix of them You pick them,But you can't change,Its a nice idea but I don't think It can be done.
Theres no way of knowing whetr of not your oppentent is doing it

    EDIT:
Me Fred and Brook are doing a simulation/Test of this on DN outting the cards I discared into my grave and pickling cards and adding as new 5 that way I can't change but I picked, Kinda like what fred said.

there's no way of knowing whether or not the opponent's cheating, true, but if you're going to cheat why play?
The game is simply a game, while winning is always nice, there's nothing at stake so winning means absolutely nothing if you cheat.
It's like how most people probably wouldn't mind if we were dueling and I used a card that needed a die roll, or a coin flip, and I rolled it even though I could lie about what the result was.
And if people wanted to be able to choose whenever they used the card, they could still simply choose to play that way.
