Haha, economics... it's the easiest uni to finish. No surprise there :P And it's not a surprise that Germans would ask for money from people either.

    Didn't anybody notice this part?
Sounds like academic dishonesty to me. He got help finishing the courses.

The idea of this originally shocked me, but Sebas' post made a good point. But if that's what's wrong, the university should have sued the student for that reason, not graduating too fast. I don't think there is anything like "graduating too fast." besides going from K to 12 in a year, which isn't possible.

    Dishonesty? xD
Here notes for all classes get shared between uni students, they get uploaded in the web or spread in various ways. Even professors spread notes to help us. When you are supposed to be in two classes at the same time, you must get the notes somehow. That's not dishonesty, it's a solution to a problem. I always knew Economics students were not the smartest people, but the fact that they haven't realised that this is a common-sense solution to pass more classes and not wasting time and money just makes them idiots.
In our department we have some people who graduate faster than the normal time taken. We're supposed to finish in 8 semesters. Some people who pick classes from higher semesters will finish earlier but they will not take their degree until the normal time comes. In the meanwhile they can start their post-graduate classes or just scratch their balls till they bleed.
Of course this has a big drawback, since to pass more classes means that you won't have time to focus much on them therefore your average might fall. If you pick a few classes, you can focus just on them, do well on the exams and raise your average.

After reading some of the later posts, here's what I have to say. If it was academic dishonesty, why sue the student for "graduating too fast"? And personally, it's academic dishonesty if the student cheated during an exam. Studying notes from classes the student isn't taking is like a student reading and learning from textbooks for classes more advanced than his/her current classes. Would it be considered academic dishonesty if I taught myself ahead of the class curriculum?

Their primary business should be to educate, and not create the idea that the students are on contract of some kind. Seriously, someone finishing fast would make your Uni look favourable compared to others since it shows that the education your giving is of a great standard. True or not, it is good publicisity in my mind.

You don't get enough for what you're paying for on a course anyway, so really, using every fair opportunity available is a good idea in my book. Knowledge such as this is something that should be free to access anyway, not shackled for the elite members who can pay to view.

"Well since he's smart he must have a lot of money!"
"GENIUS! SUE HIM UP TO KINGDOM COME!"

It's only academic dishonesty if he cheats and doesn't learn anything. If he's smart enough to study the notes, learn the material, and pass the test, then he has succeeded in being educated, which is the whole point of going to a university in the first place.

Now I'll really never understand people. He's being sued simply because he performed all of the graduation requirements in a shorter amount of time than most students that attend there? That's bunk!

That would be like suing someone because they didn't play a sport the way the person wanted that person to play.

I think we should wait until the case is in court, and all the facts are published before we raise our pitchforks.

Ah, it was just notes. Hmm. Maybe I need to rethink what I first posted. From what I understood from the article, he was getting notes from classes he wasn't even taking an passing the tests, thus shorting the school of money.

    Dangit, now I'm hella confused.

Well they charged per semester, not per unit or class. It says he fulfilled all the graduation requirements, which I guess means he either took a ton of classes at once or he tested out of all of them. If he was able to test out of them, the school already has a system where testing out of classes is allowed, so I can't see why that would be the issue.
