"Did you say you'll go back to the church to get your next assignment?" Jinx asked, "I suppose the rest of us will either wait to help you out or go on with our lives. Maybe Edward and Hannah will get married or something." she smiled at the thought.

 

"That would be interesting," Van Helsing smirked. "But no, I don't think I will go back to the church for a while after this... I don't feel connected to them anymore, you know? I guess I'm stuck with you, huh?"

 

"I guess you are..." Jinx agreed, "I kind of like the idea anyway." she muttered, smiling. "How odd."

 

"It's not odd to like someone, dear," Van Helsing smiled. "It just depends how you like them."

 

"Yeah, that was it," Hannah sat up, lowered her eyes, and breathed through her mouth. Though werewolf blood didn't smell good in the least bit, the sight and idea of blood was making her lose focus. She doubted that going through a town full of people was a good idea at this point. "Give me a second...." She said quietly, her burning golden eyes locked on the floor.

"He's younger than Edward," John began. "But he is an efficient hunter. You just might get yourself killed if you antagonize him." John's attention turned to a tree near them. "We've company."

Beatrice covered her mouth and stiffened against the tree. For a brief moment, she wondered why she couldn't hear her heart racing, but she quickly shook the thought from her head and focused on staying still. She scolded herself for stopping to listen instead of doing what Hannah had told her to.

 

Jinx smiled, "I'm not used to liking anyone, anyway at all. So it's odd to like everyone here, even odder to like you."

 

"Like me how?" Van Helsing asked. "I don't understand."

 

"Neither do I..." Jinx admitted. "I like you, but somehow it's different from the others... It's just deja vu again." she smiled.

 

"Well, that's very cute," Van Helsing laughed. "I hate to change the subject, but did we scare Carl into going and attacking Beatrice because he's lonely? That would be bad."

 

"Good idea," Edward began, going back into the bathroom is get the cloth he'd left him there, placing it on the back of his head. He tried to reach the gouges on his back without any success.

 

"Company?" Lestat repeated, interested. "I hope he's coming to us. That would be fun."

 

"cute? What the hell does that mean?" Jinx asked, confused but then opened her eyes and looked at the door. She listened for a moment. "I don't think so... I think he's just down stairs."

 

"It means I think you're cute," Van Helsing repeated, standing and winking at her again. "I hope Carl's okay... I need him... well, maybe."

 

Jinx wrinkled her nose, "Thanks?" she said, uncertainly. "I think he's okay, I can hear him talking to someone down stairs, I think it's the bar man or someone in the lobby..." she closed her eyes again.

 

"Oh, okay," Van Helsing sighed. "Thank you. He has problems looking after himself sometimes."

 

"I'll be sure to let you know if someone attacks him." Jinx assured him, "He really should have a gun or something on him, you know."

 

"He's a friar, my dear," Van Helsing laughed. "I've tried to, but he won't take a weapon from me. I think Beatrice will be good for him, though..."

 

Jinx smiled happily. "Yeah and visa versa." she said, "It's amazing how she doesn't seem to be able to hurt him.... she's got more control than I've ever seen for a newborn."

 

"That's good, I guess," Van Helsing replied. "I don't know much about... newborns. I usually shoot and then ask questions."

 

"Yeah I know..." Jinx said, blankly, " thank God you didn't do that to any of us." she smiled. "Especially Beatrice. What made you stop anyway?"
