Birth by Sleep Ven's Story - Hook Battle

Alright, just as a disclaimer I've been playing through the game, I guess you could say, the simple way. Just going from world to world the way the story is going and fighting through heartless when I see them. But now I'm fighting Hook and it takes me close to 5 minutes just to get passed the first layer, before the creep swishes me to death. I'm on level 16, Standard Mode, using Mark of a Hero. My attacks are doing little to no damage on the guy and I don't have cure and barely any potions to heal myself. I keep having to d-link which is a tad annoying.

Any suggestions? I've played the Kingdom Hearts series since I was like....9? (17 now), but I'll admit I'm a bit of a nood gamer. So please help!!

 

Go leveling somewhere. I had similar problems at neverland for every character (well except Terra, but I brought him to the arena too much) You should be fighting him at level 20 at least and more likely 25 or so. I'm not sure if you've done another story but you are near the end game and I always made sure to after the final boss at level 30 in critical.

 

thanks a lot for the suggestion. I tried doing the mirage game board thing but I didn't really get it to be honest. Do you know how to get new shot lock commands?

 

There is also a cheap way to defeat Hook, that I found out ^^
This works best when he does his really long combo of sword slashes. When he does that jump in the water, but only on the water where you can stand. There neither Hook or the crocodile can hit you. After he's finished with the attack jump up and give him a few hits then repeat. THIS IS NOT GOOD TO USE WHEN HE THROWS HIS BOMBS.

Fire attacks seem to do wonders against Hook, making him going 'zomg my pants are on fire ouch" which then gives you the chance to hit him with your keyblade.

 

Taking a guess at what you're getting at with the arena being "honest" There is a trade off if you go to the arena for command boards. The arena provides medals which you can you use to buy stuff from the moogle but it doesn't allow you access to several rare/exclusive commands. For those you need to go through the pause menu either on a save point or on the world map.

You can get shotlocks from rare melds, chests, the arena, the command board, and of course the story.

I actually never realized that the crock could hurt you, but I did basically the same thing. A handy trick is to have a fire move or two in your deck to set him on fire. Won't do much dammage since he is actually smart enough to put himself out, but it will interrupt him and save you some time. Just be careful because some commands cause you to get hit instead of him against that rage move, Fire Edge comes to mind as being one.

 

BEAT HIM! Leveling up did wonders. I just spent a few hours and got around level 27 and then I beat him with no problem. Thanks so much!
