The original instituion of a family caring for each other and also raising the next generation is based on the marriage between a hetreosexual couple, It's inevitable that if the situation arose, the nuclear (Mother, father, children) family would be more valuable than a gay married couple. Since a gay family is not seen to be able to socialise the children with the typical breadwinner, masculine father figure and the housekeeping, feminine mother figure, their value in society goes down. This is based on the idea of Functionalism that accept the nuclear family as superior to all other family types.
(Wow, I remember most of my Sociology lessons from last year, and I only got a ****ing E grade for that ****? Ignorant education system)

Still, that was just me flaunting there! XD
I believe that if peopel wanna marry, then fine. But they still have to go through many of the same hardships as a hetreosexual family. It's not going to be any easier for a homosexual couple, thats for sure.
I've agreed with some firends that if we keep in contact and by the age of 70 we are single, we're going to get a group marriage wwith each other, and this will be mainly guys, so can't wait! ^^

All debate below will be summed up together

There's one thing I'd like to point out though. It's the one of the things America was built on. Seperation of church and state Government leaders and people like rVr are the ones who are using ONLY their christian beliefs and not who they're representing. People against gay marriages solely for their christian beliefs might as well burn a flag too because they're going against one of the things that used to make this country different. The U.S is turning into a dictatorship anyway. People for giving illegal immigrants rights got shot at while protesting. Our country also. Pretty much all rights given to us are being taken away. Mark Twain's Huckelberry Finn was taken from school libraries and bookstores(supposed freedom of press), Freedom of speech is being taken away because back in Bush's presidency a Wyoming teacher was arrested for calling Bush a numbnut.

So do you still want to stick with the government after what I've said.

    This has a point how????
Anyway I agree with separation of church and state but other races go on this site other than Americans..And not all countires go by that because Italy doesn't I think but anyway LGBT's should have the right but they should have the full rights immeditatly in America

America was built on religious beliefs. You say to be against gay marriage because of regilious beliefs (and it's not just Christain) is to be unpatriotic? Not having a religious connection to the government could be considered unpatriotic in itself.
And just like RvR said, it just seems unnatural. I don't think its because of the way I was raised, I was never religious and my family never told me homosexuality was bad. It just seems unnatural to me. I see two guys kissing, I look away. I know it's natural, but I can't stop feeling unnatural towards it.
That said, I'm pro gay marriage. No matter how unnatural it feels, it's still natural. Gays are still people and I quote "All men are created equal". America may have been built on Christian beliefs, but since that time, the government has made a point of saying church and state are separated, but they still let their religious beliefs influence politics.

And also, there is a more recent thread on this...like two months old.

I was going to type a long post, but Shoorms summed it up for me rather nicely. I have nothing against homosexual marriages. I would be one of the last to, considering I am Bisexual.

What I do have a problem with is people saying (going a bit off-topic), 'That's so gay!' in a negative connotation. I mean, I am not sure how tripping over can be homosexual, or how a door not opening ... or anything like that can be homosexual. I usually make that joke, then go on a small rant about it.

Gay has multiple meanings now. Language evolves, just as species do, except at a faster rate. Back in the 40's, "gay" meant "happy and pleasant", not "homosexual". Now, it seems to be on a transition between "homosexual" and "stupid". In 100 years, it could mean something else entirely, or it could even be a dead word, like "namelings", used in 1706, meaning "persons bearing the same name".

Personally before I knew my true feelings that I'm also attracted to women also, but before hand I had no problem. If people are gay why shouldn't marriage be an option. Yeah I'm catholic sure my religion may not agree with it, but they welcome them anyways. If males are attracted males female attracted to females, who cares it's who they are it's who I am... It's so annoying sometimes, now I hop no one minds bring in religion again. If god created humans and humans can be okay then there should be nothing wrong with it. Another thing that goes all with this crud is stereotyping. Like the talk like this " omg that outfit looks sooo good" hand thingy. -.- I have plenty of gay friends and they don't all act like that.

But yeah the US government is going to crap, free speech is being taken away. Freedom of religion is also being taken away, I know of some religions that allow gays and is their religion so is basing on religion a bunch of crap too.

the answer is obvious unless they're prudish.
I'm lesbian and proud of it. We should have the right to marry other women not just because it natural or because of separation of church and state but because marriage is about love not gender. The government should be able to interfere with things relating to politics but not who we love because if I feel something for a guy then I'll ask him out(highly impossible) but for now I'll be staying with my girlfriend.

It never was. This is one of the main fallacies of American people when they belief that they are a Christian nation. It may be slightly true if you believe that morals can only come from religion but I see humanity as being intelligent and decent enough to realise the importance of morals on their own.

Sigh...it really is disapointing to see so many otherwise good people on this site who are blinded by trivial things such as 'natruality' and 'religion'.

Being bisexual and an athiest, I'm sure you can all guess my opinion on this matter.

    As says the slave owners.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being gay and being married, the only problem I've ever had with it, is the flamboyancy of it. When a gay guy walks down the street in a speedo cat callin' guys, then it's a little overboard. Things like that. But as far as them being married, I really don't think it's anyone else's business to say they can't share the financial benefits and such of marriage.

ill say this im straight and a satanist and really im not opposed to gay marriage even though i dont look to ever marry simply put WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK WHAT SOMEONE DOES BEHIND THEIR OWN DOORS? now if i see any 2 people male/female male/male female/female making out and trying to have sex in public im gonna say something around the lines of "ok you two stop that right now before you get arrested for lewd conduct." and if i say that to a gay couple i will come off as homophobic so yeah i dont know maybe if everyone would get off everyone elses backs we could form a solid yes/no answer to this................... ok i went on a little rant there but back on topic gay marriage doent bother me because well who cares really now IF(big IF there) someone tries to come on to me im probably gonna beat them to death. ok but i get accused of being gay because i have sephiroth length hair and i act feminine because i was raised ONLY by my mom but all in all i have NOTHING against gay marriage

To me, marriage is a formal procedure representing the true love that binds two beings together. If they happen to both be female, or both be male, then I think it is more than a good thing that they are not ashamed of the fact that they have a gay relationship, and want to express their love for one another in a ceremonial way.

    ...BOOYA ;D

In my eyes, gay people wanting to marry is like wanting to have straight sex with each other. I have nothing against homosexuals, I'm just not for gay marriage.

I have nothing against heterosexuals, but I think them wanting to marry is like wanting to have gay sex with each other.
