Most people assume you are far older than you are, I told you.

Yes, but it is a trick. Many of us were taught that when a number is beside parentheses, it must be multiplied by the parentheses before doing anything else.

    Algebra logic.

This is the right answer. All other ways of doing this are wrong given how the problem was written.

I understand that, I'm just telling you they've changed it.

I fail to see the difference because of that last line. But trust me, order of operations is centuries old. It only gets changed when you need to add to it (like a derivative comes before parenthesis, but derivatives didn't exist until calculus)

They may be stepping away from "PEMDAS" because most people go too strictly on it. Multiplication and division are just different ways of writing the same thing. Same for addition and subtraction. So it works if you break it up as "P-E-MD-AS" and every time you are on one level of order of operations you run from left to right.

    I can't tell you, because I don't know.

All I'm saying is that my teachers said they've (don't know who they is) changed it.

I've done order of operations the "new" way for several state tests, and they've marked them as correct.

    That's all I know. >.>

The school changed how they are teaching it, I assume because people were doing all the multiplying before all the division when they are really the same thing. The actual rules did not change.
