We all remember the original version that dealt with the settling of America.

I saw Avatar on its opening day with no expectations and found it exhilarating. Its invented new world, Pandora, was the best part about it. I guess the reason why so many people responded to it is because it's simply great sensational entertainment.

    Beavers.

lol the plot existed even before the films listed here. pocahontas itself was a boring film (but a pretty film. it is probably the only disney movie that knew how to use colors effectively).

but yeah the plot was also what killed Atlantis for me, I mean it was cool but the whole 'argh lets take Atlantis and get the profit for ourselves' thing is so old.

Agreed, Avatar is basically the poopchild of Atlantis and Pocahontas--neither of which were terribly unique plots, but yeah. also I love them both :L

I didn't find Avatar all that great. I mean, definite kudos on the visual effects, but I didn't see it in 3D so I guess that took the "magic" out of it. Once you take out the effects and everything, though, it's not all that special...

    Funny thing.
I was channel surfing and wouldn't you know? Avatar was on FX at the time this thread started.

But, I'm watching The Matrix instead.

What if I like the movie, but won't even bother defending it in this thread. What does that make me?

I don't hate the whole movie. For example I like the villain, because he killz space furries/elves and doesn't afraid of anything.

Avatar < Kung Pow ± = Who Framed Roger Rabbit

    Amazing logic guys.

And I'm totally for Kung Pow being the next movie for movie night.

Rereading this, I guess you can say the same thing about Titanic. Not a horribly unique plot, but it's made mesmerizing by the setting.

But titanic was actually based on a real event in our history. It's just that the whole love story part of it was make believe.
