I have provided a list below of some of the more popular mangaka, including a brief overview of their career (in the event that someone should not remember who penned their favorite series).
If perchance your favorite shounen mangaka is not on the list of available options, and has not been accounted for; click 'other,' and specify whom the absentee is. Do keep in mind that this poll is inquiring who your favorite shounen (boys' comics) mangaka is, so if you answer "Junji Ito!"
-- I will concede that your taste in the horror genre is top notch, but also that is an incorrect answer [terminated].
    Masashi Kishimoto
    Naruto

    Tite Kubo
    Bleach

    Eiichiro Oda
    One Piece

    Akira Toriyama
    Dr. Slump
    Dragon Ball

    Hiro Mashima
    Rave Master
    Fairy Tale

    Yoshihiro Togashi
    Yu Yu Hakusho
    Hunter x Hunter

    Osamu Tezuka
    Astro Boy
    Kimba the White Lion

    Nobuhiro Watsuki
    Rurouni Kenshin

    Hiromu Arakawa
    Full Metal Alchemist
    Hero Tales

    Rumiko Takahasi
    Inuyasha
    Ranma ½

    Hiroyuki Takei
    Shaman King

    Katsura Hoshino
    D.Gray-man

    Atsushi Okubo
    Soul Eater

    Hirohiko Araki
    JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

    Kentaro Yabuki
    Black Cat

Apologies if your favorite is not on this list. I am no connoisseur of Japanese comique, to be sure.

The one I read is a terrible storyteller and an adequate artist.

I almost put Araki, because I fucking love JoJo. I had some trouble picking it up on the first try but after trying Steel Ball Run I was willing to go back and take a look at Phantom Blood. Probably the best decision of 2012 for me. But in the end I like Watsuki better. He's a much more accessible artist and he does his own writing. He's also responsible for not only Kenshin, but Busou Renkin and Embalming. So he's got three series I really like, started the career of another artist on this list and has never done a neverending shounen. I think he deserves it.

An outstanding stalemate on all sides.

Where are Togashi's fans; lost after his slew of prolonged hiatuses? I made an oath to forfeit my soul if he did not win. Obviously, I'd like to retain it (let's hope the senpai is merciful). Understand this is a serious game we're playing.

If I don't log in come next week, it's because Togashi did not win this poll.[DOUBLEPOST=1375922583][/DOUBLEPOST]
Two of the artists on that list, actually. Eiichiro Oda and Hiroyuki Takei.

I usually attribute Oda's success to Tokuhiro or whoever it was he learned his style from. Though, yeah, he did kind of get his start after Kenshin if I think about it.

If I remember the proper use of mangaka, mine would be Takeshi Obata. While I'll I've read of him is with Tsugumi Obata (Death Note, Bakuman), but I really love the detail he puts in his art. Obata also does a great job of capturing tone and Atmosphere.

Wow it's kind of a good thing I slammed the Toriyama button without looking further down the list because I would've been so conflicted as to not vote at all

Also FMA is not a shounen

I love Togashi. In fact, Yu Yu Hakusho is an absolute favorite of mine. I've yet to read Hunter x Hunter though; I suppose I'll have to give it a go one of these days.

Ended up going with Hiromu Arakawa because honestly I don't read most of the stuff on that list.

I don't read much manga and I need it to be pretty to keep my interest.

I wholly recommend you read Hunter x Hunter, but be prepared for disappointment once you reach the latest chapter. The fans have bestowed upon it the title of 'Hiatus x Hiatus,' and with good reason. Don't be fooled by the childish premise, HxH is arguably Togashi's darkest work to date. Hisoka doesn't belong near children.

As for the animated adaptions, there's the 1999 series and its 2012 reboot counterpart. I preferred the former, despite it's short run and the fact that it was chock full of filler (enjoyable filler, but filler nonetheless). It'd serve as an adequate introduction into the series; you could easily pick up the manga from where the anime drops off. The 2012 reboot, on the other hand... Generic shounen anime. Mediocre. Due to it holding an early time slot in Japan, the executives are forced to kiddify it. Minimal amount of blood shed, guts, et cetera.
