    It's mass hysteria.

Think of it as a moral panic.

This is EXACTLY what I've been trying to tell people. Everyone is freaking out, and because of what? Because people have died because of this? People die EVERY YEAR because of the normal flu, and yet no one seems to be afraid of that. And besides, most of the people who have died did not go to the doctor even once they were very very sick. That's just stupid. If you're sick, GO TO THE DOCTOR. Obviously. That's why people go to the doctor... so they won't bite it.

And, I keep saying this, but people are apparently choosing to ignore me: to those people saying that it will take forever to find a cure, blah blah blah, THERE IS ALREADY A CURE!! LISTEN TO ME!! We are totally prepared!! Yes, I heard that a child died in Texas. But first of all, they came to Texas from Mexico just to get treatment for this, so obviously he'd had it for a while, and secondly, little kids don't have the greatest immune systems, so they're more at risk. It's very sad, yes, but nothing to really panic about. Now, when thousands of grown men and women start dropping like flies, then it would be the time to worry. But obviously, that is not the case.

My theory is that a majority of humans are fascinated by the macabre, so even though they're scared of this, part of them is so fascinated by the idea of such a terrible disaster. Now, I'm not saying that they want this to happen. Of course no one wants this (... well, at least I hope not...). But we can't help but be sucked in by this kind of thing, and the media knows how to pull us in even more.

If you feel like you have the symptoms, by all means go to the doctor asap. The cure will work if you are treated within the first few days of showing symptoms. And there is a HUGE supply (my dad is a doctor, this is how I know. He's ordered us our own personal stash of the medicine. If there's enough for that, there's enough to completely stock the hospitals).

So basically, WILL EVERYONE PLEASE CALM DOWN.

Oh, and if any of you are thinking "omg this stupid person must live really far away from the outbreaks that's why she's not worried." WRONG. I live in Southern California, and my college is about 20 minutes south of LA. I am very close to the outbreaks. And yet I am able to stay calm.

You are all going to make it worse by panicking. So please, for the sake of everyone's sanity, don't panic.

    Rant over.
