Eva's face became more solemn. "I mean people who have bat abilities." she had faced off against one before...

 

Jasmine shuddered; she never did like bats. "They'll stay outside, right?"

 

"Depends on how much they want what you got." she murmured, then stopped. "Sorry, i don't mean to scare you, I just..."

 

"What?" Jasmine's voice nearly cracked. The memories of the people who had been at her house raced through her head. The bed and dresser shook, the door and window shut with loud bangs. "You're joking... They're not here... they can't be...."

 

Eva hugged her tight. "Calm down, I didn't say they were here. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything."

 

Jasmine tried to calm her nerves, but the idea of those people so close to her again was a bit too much. The bed and dresser clamed to a tremble, but the door and window stayed tightly shut.

 

Eva kept hugging her. "I won't let them touch you, I promise."

 

Jasmine's nerves lessened. Never before had someone said something so comforting to her. The bed and dresser stilled. "You promise...?"

 

Eva nodded, smiling. "What kind of family are we if we don't look out for one another? I promise."

 

"Family?" Jasmine repeated the word. Her family had run out on her, would she be willing to accept a new one?

 

Eva nodded, letting go of her. "Family." she said firmly.

 

Jasmine just nodded numbly. Now that she thought about it, Logan was becoming someone she thought she'd be able to talk to, like a father. And Eva was beginning to earn her trust as well. With some time, she might become a sister-figure to Jasmine. Maybe this change had some positive factors to it.

 

Eva smiled. "Do you listen to music?" she asked, patting her pocket.

 

"I haven't for a long time," Jasmine shook her head. "It hurts my head for some reason. Though I do miss it.... But I sing." She lowered her head to hide her blush; she had never openly discussed her singing, it was like a sanctuary to her.

 

Eva smiled. "What's your favorite one to sing?"

 

"I... don't know it's name," Jasmine answered after a moment. "I just remember someone singing it to me when I was younger; my mother, I think. It's a happy song, a kind of lullaby, but I don't know what it means. You see, it's not in English. But I love it anyway... It's silly, I know."

 

Eva smiled. "Its not silly. One of my favorite songs is in Japanese."

 

Logan looked up at Wolfe in a mixture of anger and astonishment. "Look, chill out. now." he demanded, gripping her shoulder. His eyes were intense on hers, his teeth gritting.

"I want...to go home..." Wolfe whispered, an angry expression washing over her features. She was sick of the unanswered questions repeatedly screaming in her head, but most of all, she was sick of staying quiet. Sick of the failed promises. She felt her muscles tighten in her back, along with her upper lip curling back into a deep snarl.
Not...again...

 

"It's nice to know that I've... got something in common with someone," Just as Jasmine was starting to get settled down, the sharpness of Wolfe's thoughts struck her mind. Her hands flew to her head and her face screwed up in pain.

 

Eva looked up, sensing something was wrong. "Let her go!" she said to Logan sharply, her eyes narrowed.

Rogue came into the room her eyes wide. "Eva, Jasmine. What's going on? Logan?"
