You cant hide forever

"Dad...your such a hypocrite....didnt you used to go out with Ronan and Shawn and Nate all the time?"

"I stopped that after I got married Elly."

"Problem solved...Hermia....make him marry you."she smiled"You'd be amazing as a sister in law....and I'd get to be a aunty...though tiny River's running around.....I dunno."

River shuffled- actually shuffled- down the stairs as if every step caused him pain,his blonde hair was sticking up at one side and was completely flat on the other

 

Hermia giggled slightly. "I don't think that's going to happen any time soon, and can you imagine the state that would end up in after a stag do?" She said in an amused tone, indicating the mess that was coming down the stairs.

 

"I can imagine"she giggled"Oh my god! it's alive!"


Mickey snickred


"shut up Elena...I have a headache..."he said his voice hoarse

 

"I'm not surprised, the amount you drank last night should of killed an elephant. Let alone you." Hermia giggled with amusement, drinking yet more of her mug of coffee.

 

"Seriously? I cant remeber much."he said

"we did warn you before hand...Maybe you'll listen next time."


"There wont be a next time...."he mumbled dropping his head onto the table

 

"You said that last time. And the time before that, and the time before that, time before then, and then time before that." She sighed. "You want some coffee?"

 

"I mean It this time.....I am never going near Alcohol ever again...."he muttered"No thanks....I dont think I can stomach anything right now.....god I've felt so bad in my life."



ooc-I had this idea that River goes to the head of the army to sort everything out but he ends up blowing the place up or something and it comes on the tv that he's dead,but he;s really in the hospital and Ocean or someone could call and let the family know? make it a little more exciting...

 

"Well it was self-inflicted." Hermia giggled softly, wandering over and patting his head gently, running a hand through his hair. "You really need to learn when enough is enough."

Mickey was in the kitchen,ever now and then he'd glance at the clock,River had been gone for hours and he'd promised Hermia he'd be back...he wasnt going away from good.

Elena was sitting watching tv,when a 'breaking news' sign appeared,she gasped as she saw a picture of her brother,it was from the summer,had to have been because River was sitting with his two sisters and Hermia,Ocean on one side,Hermia on the other and Elena at his feet,"DAD!"

 

Hermia, who'd been sat on the sofa near to Elena also saw the TV. Her eyes widened in shock, what had he done? What had happened? What had they done? Her heart started to race as she snapped into a sitting up position, anxious to find out any more information.

Lake wandered into the room just as Elena shouted at her father. "What's with you?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

 

"Mum....They're saying he's dead.....they're saying River's dead."she said not taking her tear filled eyes from the tv"Something about an explosion.....River only went to sort things out....he cant be gone !"

Mickey came in slowly,staring at the tv,this wasnt real....this wasnt happening.....River...he was too young to die.

 

Hermia stared blankly at the TV, she felt as though she'd just had all her insides yanked out from inside of her in one go. Her eyes seemed blank, not even the glimmer of tears shined in her eyes. It was a level of devastation that not even tears could express.

"Wh-What...?" Lake said, not daring to believe a word of what the television and her daughter said. "N-No wa-way..."

 

"Elena...."Mickey said his voice cracking he cleared it"Elena....turn the tv off...turn it off."


"Why did he have to go? huh? I hate him for going!"she said stamping her foot

 

Lake quickly marched over to the TV and turned it off. "Elena, now is not the time for a tantrum!" She snapped, her voice carrying an edge that it never had before. An edge that made her sound dangerous.

Hermia continued to stare blankly, but slowly she sunk back into the sofa. She pulled her knees up under her chin and hugged her legs tightly, her breath rapid and ragged.

 

"Hermia..."Mickey said moving towards her

"But I do! If he hadnt gone,then he'd still be here! with us!"she cried tears trickling down her cheeks

 

After a moment Hermia hid her face in her knees, a shuddering sob escaped from her. She didn't even seem to register that Mickey had said her name.

"I know!" Lake snapped again. "But saying you hate him isn't going to bring him back!"
