You cant hide forever

He glanced helplessly at Lake before turning back to Hermia"Im sorry.....I promised you last night he'd be safe....that you'd have a future together...."he muttered"Im so sorry I couldnt keep that Hermia..."

 

Hermia continued to sob, all dignity gone as she cried uncontrollably. She felt lost, more lost then when he'd left the first time. As this time, no matter what, it was forever.

 

He stood back up,sighing,how did you comfort someone when she'd just lost her boyfriend who was your son? how did you comfort someone when your own heart was practically breaking from the pain of losing a child - your only son - ?

 

Lake slowly wandered over to Mickey and patted his shoulder, half to try and support him and half in the hope that he'd get the message that she needed some support to. Even if it was just a hug.

 

And he did pull her into a hug,a tight one as if he was afraid to let her go

 

Lake clutched tightly onto his shirt, silent tears of her own rolling down her face. She'd never been one to make a lot of noise when she cried, and now wasn't an exception. Even if it was one of the most, if not the, most devastating moments of her life.

 

he stroked her hair and back soothingly,muttering "It'll be fine.....we can get through this."but his voice sounded dead and hopless even to himself

It was Elena who answered the phone when it wrang shrilly,propbably a family memember calling to see if they knew or offer condolences.

 

Lake stifled a sob, she was now physically shaking with grief.

"Hey!" Ocean's voice came down the phone, it sounded slightly rushed and there was a great deal of background noise. "Look, I don't know if they've broadcast it already or what, but I thought I should call you. River isn't dead, until I tell you otherwise, no matter what you hear, he's not dead. He's in hospital with me, okay? He's not exactly in top condition, but he's certainly not dead." She explained quickly, almost in one long breath.

 

"Not....dead....but-.....River's not dead?"


"Elena....who is it?"


"Ocean says hes not dead! he's still alive and at the hospital."

 

Hermia looked up from her knees, her eye-liner streaming down her reddened face.

"Put me on the phone to Dad." Ocean said upon hearing Mickey's voice in the background. "Please?"

 

"Ocean.....is he really alive?"Mickey asked once he had the phone

 

"Would I lie about something like this?" She said sounding slightly indignant. "He's fine, just a bit burnt and a bit bruised. And he's not concious at the moment, but the shock from the blast can't be magicked away."

 

He breathed a sigh of relief "But he'll be ok? once he wakes up?"

 

"He'll be fine, just a little bit scarred. Well, a fair bit scarred. He's got some bad burns. But apart from that he'll be back to abnormal."

 

He sighed in releif again "can we come see him?"

 

"Yeah, if you leave soon you'll get here just as he wakes up." She nodded.

 

"Ok."he said "see you in a bit."

 

"Bye Daddy." Ocean said, hanging up and going back to her work.

"He's... He's okay...?" Lake asked, timidly looking up at her husband.

 

He nodded after saying goodbye to his daughter,"Ocean says he's bruised and burned and will be scarred....but hes fine."

 

"Oh thank god..." Lake said, her tears falling faster but now they were tears of relief rather than distress.
