Fred Phelps to protest High School production of "Rent"

This statement was taken from his site. He's appearing at my high school on October 23rd. I'm going to try and take part in a counter-protest against Phelps. It's being student run.

Anyone have thoughts on this? Personally, I saw this coming when they announced they were doing Rent, but I still want the show to go on. My school put a lot of thought and effort into just being able to put this show on and has done numerous community outreach services to spread awareness of homosexuality and the hardships they face.

 

This Fred Phelps sounds like the kinda guy who makes ANYONE who believes in God sound like idiots and nutcases. He seems to me to be the kind of guy who LOOKS for things to get mad about, just so he can pull the "holier-than-thou" card on anyone who "thinks they know anything about life," (in the words of an religous nutcase with whom I had to live for a week -- worst week of my life). He needs to get bitch slapped.

The hell is wrong with him? He makes us Christians look bad! I am so sick of shit like this happening. Who cares what the concieted snob wants? I hope that he doesn't get his way... He needs to be put in his place!

I've heard of this guy, isn't he that raging anti-homosexual dude? I've heard he is actually banned from the UK... Anyway, he's actually sinking to the point of attacking High-School students for putting on a production? For one thing, this guy sounds like a broken record stuck in the 50's. Homosexuality is just a part of modern life now, and this guy is just an attention seeking old git.

BTW, Why is he coming to your school anyway? Was he asked to come in and speak or something?

Founder/leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, an insult to rational-minded Christians everywhere. Probably one of the biggest *******s of all time.

I get nauseous knowing that he actually had the audacity to take Scripture and use it to justify his views. Shows how sick he is.

 

Let me at 'em. I'll tell him where to shove it. It's sick gits like this that made me convert...I was sick of being labeled a religious bigot because of someone else's headstrong beliefs.

I feel sorry for him, but especially his family. They have been corrupted and ruined by religion. I only fear that others are as corrupted and ruined.

Yeah, he's just a religious heretic who doesn't want to spread the word and love of God or Christ, but rather make everyone fear them and their almighty power over us. Honestly, I'd love to put a bullet through his skull, but that isn't the way to handle this man.

I, personally, am an Atheist. This guy doesn't push me away from believing in God, because I know he's spreading lies and slander. He's far from the truth that good-hearted Christians or Catholics or whoever try to spread. I think he's just an insult to religion and humanity in general.

He's a religious heretic trying to spread the fear of God so people can enter Heaven. He believes that all acts of terrorism are caused by God's hatred of gay people. He wrote a letter to Saddam Hussein praising him. He's a huge anti-everything not white, Christian, scared of God. That's how you can sum him up.

I 100% agree with you. We're having a peaceful counter-protest against Phelps. As long as he doesn't get a rise out of us with his bullshit, then he won't win.

We're going to try. Trust me, I don't want him setting foot on my Alma Mater, but life throws these things at you and I'm going to defend my school and my theater department. It was pretty much my second home. That department shaped me as a person. I'll protect the hell out of it.

I feel nothing but disgust for him and his family. I just find that they are all horrible people who had the wrong kind of upbringing. I'm sure only 71 people will show at his funeral. If that. And they'll all be his church-goers. But good luck finding a cemetery and funeral home that'll host that for him.

Mutilate him. That's what we need to do.

He's an old fart that can't be reasoned with. He'll die eventually, and the country will have a huge sigh of relief. We just have to wait for his entire family to die out, which won't happen in most of our lifetimes. That greatly saddens me because that means that my children will probably have to grow up hearing about his nonsensical bullshit. Anyway, I'm done ranting for now.

I've never really seen/listened to Rent, but from what I've heard it's just some harmless musical that everybody loves. I'm pretty sure the only thing that Mr. Phelps will do is piss people the fuck off.
