yes there are emo rock bands(tho i hardly call these guys rock bands) ever heard of hothorn and hights, emo all the way but a rock band, emo has to do with the lyrics not the beat.

Hawthorne Heights yes they are 100% emo.

But these bands are not emo, they do not promote self-harm and the songs don't make you want to cut yourself.

In general they are upbeat, and maybe the odd song is about breakking up, but one song just a tad depressing does not make them emo. One of AAR's songs is about getting on with life, leaving the past behind (not emo at all) and stuff along that nature. I'm sorry but that statement is totally wrong.

    Fallout Boy is emo.

    AAR is emo.

End of story. This topic should be called "WHICH EMO BAND DO YOU PREFER?!?!"

And yes, John S., these ARE rock bands. Like you said, lyrics make them emo. They have a guitar, drums, and an equilizer. This is rock. =P

So your basing that conclusion over one song?

Move along is about being young, lonely, and struggling through life but "moving along", shaking off problems and continuing with life.

    Not very emo at all.

Emo means emotional rock, so techincally doesn't that make basically every song emo.

Seriously, emo is a term that is overused now. I highly doubt that members of AAR slit their wrists and cry over stuff. Plus, AAR's songs reflect parts of life. For example, "Move Along" tells that you should move along and forget bad things. HOW IS THAT EMO?!
As for Fall Out Boy, I don't listen to them. AAR is just to awesome. :D
