    Story

    Long ago a man by the name of Galbatorix slaughtered those of his kind, the Dragon Riders, who would not bow to his will. This man had blamed them for the death of his own dragon and sought to overthrow the Dragon Riders in an act of revenge. When he succeeded, he had justified his actions by saying the Riders had become too powerful and that he would be the one to rule Alagaësia so that there would be true peace. Galbatorix had wished to control everything. With time a new Dragon Rider by the name of Eragon had risen up with the help of a resistance group by the name of the Varden to dethrone Galbatorix and rid Alagaësia of his iron fist.

    Eventually, they did succeed in defeating Galbatorix. Though it had been thought that Galbatorix had slain nearly every dragon there was indeed a way to save the species and bring back the Dragon Riders. So Eragon left with a small group to a far away land where he could train new Dragon Riders and once again allow dragons to roam the lands as they once did.

    Just over 300 years have passed since that day. The process which had been started by Eragon continues still. Two unhatched dragon eggs are left behind. They are carried throughout Alagaësia until the eggs choose their respective Riders. Once they hatch and the new Riders are ready, they travel to the land where Eragon and his group had left to in order to be trained.

    Edoc’sil, the new location of the Riders, is located far East of the rest of Alagaësia beyond the reach of any race. What was once just a small group of elves following Eragon has now become an order of two hundred strong. Eragon and two elders are the ones charged with taking care of the order as a whole, managing instructors and what spells should be or should not be taught while under their guidance as well as placing other regulations on the Dragon Riders. Everything is peaceful and no signs of that ever changing has come.

    However...things can easily change as the actions of the past are not so easily forgotten...

    Races

    Humans
    They are rarely born with magic and are exactly what they are, human. They hold the largest amounts of land. Other than the obvious, nothing much need be said about humans.

    Elves
    Every elf is born with the ability to use magic and learns the Ancient Language from an early age. They are immortal but not invincible. Elves are physically faster and stronger than humans and even the weakest elves could easily outmatch a human in combat. They have pointed ears too. They live in the forest of Du Weldenvarden.

    Dwarves
    Short, strong, and stocky. Dwarves live in large underground cities in the Beor Mountains. They live long lives roughly twice that of a human. Dwarves are lovers of the stone and earth and are generally speaking all master craftsmen. Some are inherently born with magic but not many.

    Kull
    Once only a set of the strongest and largest of the species known as Urgals, the Kull are now all that remain as no smaller individuals of their kind exist. Kull are grey-skinned and humanoid in appearance. Kull stand roughly 8 or 9 feet tall and (almost literally) have legs as thick as tree trunks. Some of the largest of the Kull would be able to kill a bear with a single swipe of their hand. Kull are an aggressive battle-oriented species though over the years their brutal ways have calmed down so that they no longer try to wage war with other species constantly. Instead of fingernails, Kull have claws. The Kull are also known for their two large twisted horns on their head. They are as fast as horses and have the stamina to run at full sprint for two or three days straight, outlasting even the elves, but they are not as fast as an elf. Like humans and dwarves, some Kull have the ability to use magic.

    Dragons
    When a dragon egg is laid certain words can be said over it to bind it to become the partner of a Rider. When this happens a dragon will not hatch until it touches the hands of the Rider it chooses. However it is not healthy for a dragon egg to stay in its shell for decades despite being able to. When hatched a dragon will choose its name when it is ready, often with the help of its Rider. Dragons cannot breathe fire until reaching about six months in age. When hatched they are as small as a house cat. Dragons are quite smart but extremely prideful in such a way that a compliment may offset their anger. They have a mental bond with their Riders and speak only with their thoughts. Dragons also have access to powerful magic but cannot use it at will as the Ancient Language must be spoken aloud when using a spell. A dragon never stops growing but after several years their growth does slow. A trademark of the Rider known as the gedwëy ignasia is a small silvery oval found on the Rider gained when they touch their dragon for the first time, due to this the marking is almost always found on the palm. The gedwëy ignasia glows when the Rider uses magic and tingles when danger is near.

    One last thing to note is the Eldunarí, the heart of hearts, of a dragon which can be(but doesn’t have to be) expelled from a dragon at any point in their life. Such an object looks like an orb the same color as the dragon and as long as the dragon is alive, it is entirely useless for anything. When the dragon dies though their consciousness transfers to the orb. It is proportional in size to the dragon it belonged to and cannot grow once it is released. One who has control of an Eldunarí has access to the full power that dragon contained when it had created the orb as well as all the contained wisdom of the dragon from its entire lifetime. While they can be destroyed, holding such an object can make one extremely powerful which is why all of the existing Eldunarí are kept under close watch by Eragon himself.

    Magic

    Magic can be called forth in a variety of ways. Dragons have access to magic though they cannot use it on command, those born with the ability to use it instinctively though it is a highly risky process, and other things seem to naturally exhibit magical power and these naturally occurring powers are often the strongest forces found. The most common way, the easiest and safest method, to use magic is through knowledge of the Ancient Language. Long ago a race had bound magic to their own language so that if one possessed the gift of magic, one would only need to utter a word, phrase, or sentence in the Ancient Language to use magic. The elves are the only race that practice this language excessively and use it as their primary language hence their proficiency with magic. Take note, when speaking using the Ancient Language it is impossible to tell a lie.

    Magic drains strength from the caster equivalent to the amount it would take to do the task manually. Using magic to lift a rock for example would take the same strength as to lift it yourself. Also, using magic that acts over a long distance or wide area takes additional strength from the caster. It is not uncommon for magic to kill the caster when he or she does not have the energy to use a powerful spell. There are several ways to get around such a limitation. Dragon Riders often borrow strength from their dragons, giving them access to large amounts of power. A magician can store energy in jewels and the higher quality the jewel is, the more energy they can store in the jewel. That is the reason why a Dragon Rider’s sword has a jewel placed in the sword’s pommel.

    Rules
    1. No Godmodding or Power Playing.
    2. There will be no mind reading of other RPer’s characters in this.
    3. Your sword’s color will match your dragon’s color. Example: You can’t have a red dragon and a green sword.
    4. Main characters such as Eragon, Arya, Murtagh, Oromis, Nasuada, and Roran can’t be used in this RP. For obvious reasons of course and stuff. The story will explain it all without spoiling too much if you haven‘t read all the books.
    5. When picking a dragon’s color, try to pick one that isn’t taken. We don’t want twenty black, white, and red dragons running about.
    6. For those who know what this is, no Eldunarí for you. B|
    7. I’d like it if the known Rider swords were taken first before you guys make up your own. Arvindr has no known color so you can make it whatever you want(blue, black, red, etc).
    8. I’ll make new rules as I see fit. We’re playing by Arch’s Rule!
    9. Just state if your character is a teacher in your OC somewhere if you chose to have one.
    10. The newest Dragon Riders won't start out with their Rider swords. Don't worry! You can have the name of the sword ready! They'll get their swords pretty quickly too so don't worry. How new exactly would they have to be for this to apply? They'd need to be within the first year of being a student.
    11. There will be hybrids between races allowed. Only two will be available though! They won't have the full strengths of the stronger race though. Meaning a half-human half-elf wouldn't be as strong or fast as an elf but would be a little stronger and faster than a human. [One hybrid slot left open.]
    12. Stay active and have fun!

    Name: Risit
    Gender: Male
    Age: 284
    Race: Human
    Appearance: Risit
    Sword Name: Islingr
    Info: Risit had been chosen by his dragon soon after Eragon had left Alagaësia and had been sent to go with the new order of Dragon Riders once his dragon was large enough to carry him in flight. Upon meeting him, Eragon had felt it fit that Risit would receive the sword of former Rider Vrael, the past leader of the Dragon Riders who had also had a white dragon. After several years and when the order had become too large for Eragon to control himself, Risit was chosen to be the first of what was to be known as the “elders” due to him being one of the first to join and having grown so quickly into his role as a Dragon Rider. With well over two centuries of tempering Risit has become cunning and slow to anger unlike his days in his youth though he is self-conscious on his actions given his important role in the new order. Recently Risit has been vanishing without a word’s notice to the fellow elders and returns tired and in an irritable mood. At worst he’s left for days at a time.

    Dragon
    Name: Vanilor
    Gender: Male
    Age: 256
    Color: White
    Appearance: Vanilor
    Personality: Vanilor is wise given his age and is unusually calm, something dragons aren’t known for. Like most dragons he is bold and cares little for anyone’s opinion outside of his own and his Rider save for Saphira, Eragon’s dragon, and Eragon himself. Despite his attitude, Vanilor can be competitive.

    Gender: Female
    Age: 319
    Race: Elf
    Appearance: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/...lay Character Pictures/huntress-anime-elf.jpg
    Sword Name: Undbitr, sword of Brom
    Background: Since the fall of Galbatorix, Evarinya has been helping Eragon and her fellow Riders with finding the matches for the unhatched dragon eggs. When her dragon hatched for her, Evarinya immediately knew that she wanted to help all future dragon eggs find their Riders; the happiness and feeling of completion she felt when connecting with her dragon was something she wanted to share with everyone else around her. She asked Eragon if she could specialize in Rider-Dragon connections, from helping the eggs find their match all the way to older dragons and their Riders. He approved this unique position. Since then, she has helped Riders and dragons alike strength their bonds throughout Alageasia.
    Personality: Evarinya is a very kind, selfless, giving elf. She trusts and loves all those around her, always trying to see the good in everyone. Evarinya is not gullible, however; with her typical elven skills with the ancient language and mental abilities, she can be a formidable foe in battle.

    Dragon

    Age: 200
    Color: Light Blue
    Appearance: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee306/darktowerjunkie19/RolePlay Character Pictures/RPDragon.jpg
    Personality: Mizuiro is a very sweet, quiet dragon, her personality very similar to her Rider. She gets along well with other dragons as well as humans, elves, dwarves, and Kull. She is slender for her age and not as muscular as other dragons, however, and tends to avoid battle or any kind of confrontation.

    Name: Merik
    Gender: Male
    Age: 450
    Race: Elf
    Appearance: Merik
    Sword Name: Svie
    Info: Merik had been one of the elves who had traveled with Eragon originally when the new order was to be created. Despite having been around dragons for so long, a great number of years had passed before he was chosen by his own to become its Rider. With his experience in magic and proficiency with the sword, he was asked to be one of Eragon’s council of “elders”. He had refused for he simply wanted to stay in his position as one of the teachers of the new Dragon Riders. Amongst the students who know him personally, he is seen as extraordinarily friendly and polite as well as highly perceptive.

    Username: Rem
    Name: Joan Baker
    Gender: Female
    Age: 79
    Race: Human
    Appearance: Joan
    Sword Name: Loivissa
    Info: Joan grew up as a typical farm girl, living with her father and two older brothers. She was the only girl in the family and she never met her mother, who had died during childbirth. Her brothers were 20 and 18 when she was born, so she was treated with total care and compassion. Growing up in a farm, Joan grew a deep love for animals. When she was nine, she insisted on feeding the animals and taking care of them. She bonded well with her father and brothers, but when she was eleven, her oldest brother had fallen ill and died. The only comfort she felt was from the animals she took care of. When she was eighteen, her brother had left to buy something for her birthday, but ended up being mugged and killed. Completely heartbroken, Joan ran away from home and stumbled upon her dragon egg. Not sure what to do, she took it home and kept it until it hatched. Wanting to keep the dragon a secret from her father, Joan became very reserved and independent. After losing her brothers, she dislikes having to depend on others, fearing she’ll only end up losing them at some given point. She can come off cold, but once she opens up, she becomes loving and kind. She’s also a bit protective of her dragon.
    Other: Joan was taught how to read from Merik, the teacher of the new Dragon Riders. In doing so, she became extremely interested in just about any book she can get her hands on.

    Dragon
    Name: Orchid
    Gender: Female
    Age: 53
    Color: Purple
    Appearance: Orchid
    Personality: Orchid is stubborn and quiet. She cares deeply for her rider, regardless if she might not show it so much. As Joan is protective of her, Orchid is protective of Joan as well.

    Rider
    Username: Garxena
    Name: Lyrth Bloodhaven
    Gender: Male
    Age: 19
    Race: Human
    Appearance: Short for his age, standing approximately 5 feet and 6 inches. He has shaggy black hair that he rarely does anything with, save for to run his fingers through it. He has dark brown eyes. He’s not a body builder but neither is he a string of spaghetti; his body is well-toned from making tack for his town’s horses. He wears a forest green tunic and dark brown belt with brown pants and boots; by habit, he wears cloth bracers and has gloves tucked under his belt on the left side of his waist.
    Sword Name: Tharrhountes
    Info: Lyrth grew up with his family, two younger sisters, his mother and father, on a quaint farm. He was never much of the social type but he has close ties with his family and a few people in the town. When he was fourteen he started making tack and shoeing horses in the town. His skills in making saddles grew to a tee and soon he could saddle a horse without measuring it. He found his dragon’s egg in the woods one day when he was taking a short cut on a saddle delivery out of his town. He completed the delivery and took the egg back home with him. The egg hatched and after a few months of bonding and teasing, Lyrth and Styrke became good friends. The two have flown together only twice and Lyrth fell off both times even though he made a saddle especially for Skyrke.

    Age: Five months
    Color: Black
    Appearance: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/murk003/Black_Dragon.jpg
    Personality: A classically strong and unmovable will. He is very much a motivator despite his young age and lack of experience in the world. He’s all about charging in head-first, jaws snapping, without a second thought to any kind of strategy. However, he is still has bits of incredible wisdom that he shows every now and then.

    Rider
    Username: Bushy Brow
    Name: Elysia (can be shortened to 'Ellie' in order to sound more human if she wishes)
    Gender: Female
    Age: 25 (Due to her mixed blood, she only looks around 16-ish)
    Race: Half Elf/Half Human hybrid
    Appearance:
    [IMG]
    Sword Name: Zar'roc (she will receive it later.)
    Info: Ever since the defeat of Galbatorix, the divide between races seemed to loosen, albeit only slightly. Elysia is a rare wonder in the world. She is the offspring of a Human Father and an Elf Mother, officially making her one of the first Hybrid races in Alagaësia. Hybrids are a new concept and are exceedingly rare even now'a'days. The Elves have been known to not allow any none-elf into Du Weldenvarden (Excluding Dragon Riders) which means they were at a dilemma when Elysia was first born. As such and after much deliberation, they did choose to raise her in the forest with them under the pretense that she will be literally a test to see if they can truly allow the integration of humanity with their species. Where else would be best to start than with a Half-breed?
    Elysia has an easy going persona of a young and happy elf and is currently going through an awkward aging process where she ages slower than humans but faster than elves, so despite being twenty five, she is already catching up and looks to be around fifteen to sixteen years old. However, she is still very young amongst the people of her home, and they see fit to remind her of that despite seemingly having accepted her for who and what she is. She has a bit of a rebellious side as such in response and doesn't act as refined as most other Elves generally do.
    She one day felt an impulse to get up and go for a wander, her feet seemingly guiding her into a heavily natured area of the forest, completely unaware of where she was even going. It was there once she stopped that she found... that shiny and perfectly round Red Stone... a Dragon Egg. Since eggs are ferried around now'a'days... it can only be assumed that this one somehow got separated by an accident, or maybe it was destiny.
    Other: Is one of the two allowed hybrid race OCs of the RP.
    She is weaker than most Elves due to her half-blood but is still physically stronger than humans.
    Once her Rider Transformation is complete, she will be on par with other elves in all parameters, much like how Eragon was.

    Dragon
    Name: Rubei
    Gender: Female
    Age: One and a half month(s) old.
    Color: Red
    Appearance:
    [IMG]
    Personality: Generally kind, but can have a witty and sarcastic side when she is feeling unco-operative. She's still very young so she is trying to find her 'own style' and place in the world and feels like she can much relate to Elysia who also feels similar due to her own circumstances.
    Other:

    Rider
    Username: Snow Princess
    Name: Eira Odell Garrowson
    Gender: Female
    Age: 25 years
    Race: Human
    Appearance: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/.../RolePlay Character Pictures/omgitzaelf-1.jpg
    Sword Name: None: Eira is an archer and rarely uses a sword. With her Rider-enhanced vision, she can target enemies or hunt from extreme distances.
    Background: Eira was born in Therinsford along the Anora River in Northwestern Alagaesia. For generations, her family herded, cared for, sold, traded, and bred sheep in the lush lands of the beautiful yet dangerous mountains of The Spine.
    Hundreds of years ago during the war between the Varden and Galbatorix, the Odells were inspired by the march of arms by none other than the Dragonrider Eragon’s cousin, Roran Garrowson. The Odells followed the inexperienced leader, wanting to make a change in the world so the future generations of their family would be free of the unfair rule of their cruel king.
    After the war ended, the Odells eventually married into the line of Roran’s family, (beginning with the child of Katrina and Roran himself) starting a whole new generation of strong-minded, loving, leading people. As the other women in her family before her, Eira was trained in the art of swordplay and archery. She was a slow but deliberate learner, and, reaching her twentieth birthday, Eira was skilled enough with her blade Wyrda to be considered a formidable enemy.
    Eira was taught as she grew up to learn the exact history of her family line, where they came from, and what they had fought for to keep her future peaceful, as well as the importance of being respectful and grateful for the dragons that they shared their world with. When the eggs of new dragons were being traveled around Alagaesia in search of their Riders, Eira was very willing to present herself to them in hopes of bonding with one of the amazing creatures herself.
    Personality: Eira can be overly-confident when first approached, but most of her swagger and arrogance comes from her bloodline, not her actual feelings; her pride is in her family name and she wields the title “Garrowson” as well as her actual sword. Eira trusts few people with the secrets of her life so far, but when she does open up, she is very kind, flirty, and brave. She has no close friends, however, so this side of her rarely comes out to anyone but her dragon.

    Dragon
    Name: Amaterasu
    Gender: Male
    Age: 5 years
    Appearance: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/...9/RolePlay Character Pictures/BrownDragon.jpg
    Color: Brown
    Personality: Amaterasu waited an entire century for his Rider, and when Eira was presented to his egg, he began to hatch immediately and he was born and attached to his Rider immediately; Amaterasu is, therefore, very rash and full of himself (more than the usual dragon.) He tends to have a hot temper, rush into situations, and becomes extremely protective of Eira without just cause. He and Eira have a connection that is rarely ever broken, even when they sleep; Amaterasu feels that he needs to be perfect for his Rider, but will never admit it. To the outside world, he is a cocky, bratty, rather rude dragon that many do not trust and are constantly cautious around.

    Sword Name: None, Airi uses a spear.
    Info: Orphaned at the age of 10, Airi devoted her life to find her parents' murderer and take revenge with a spear her father used. She found her dragon, Jerrod, 9 years after starting her journey and have been friends ever since. Being friendly but sarcastic, Airi is up for any challenge she gets.

    Personality: Like Airi, Jerrod is up for any challenge he gets. But he's a bit more violent then she is, sometimes breaking out into a stream of it. He was raised normally, and Airi found him. That's about it.

    Rider
    Username: DarkTraitor
    Name: Lona
    Gender: Female
    Age: 61
    Race: Elf
    Appearance: Here
    Sword Name: Sundavr (Will edit for sake of colour later)
    Info: A young (by Elf standards) girl adopted by a human family, far outside of the Elves usual forest home, since she was a newborn, she has been greatly upset by the passing of said adoptive family, who only had a single, now-fully-grown, child of their own, with whom she felt unable to stay with. She sees herself as an outsider no matter where she goes; she was not accepted by her home village due to being an Elf, she feels unaccepted in Du Weldenvarden due to not knowing anything of their culture. Because of this she is particularly quiet in most situations, though she is less hesitant about acting than she is speaking.
    Other: To the teachers it is unknown how much of the Ancient Language she has learned, as she speaks far too little to judge. Lona has a strong talent for memorization, however, meaning that she is actually a fairly fast learner.

    Dragon
    Name: Lazul
    Gender: Male
    Age: 5 months
    Color: Midnight Blue
    Appearance: Here
    Personality: Somewhat outgoing and interested in learning, unlike his Rider. Unusually comfortable with communicating with people other than his Rider, most likely because of her quietness.
    Other: Is very close to the age of being able to breath fire, but not quite there yet.

    Rider
    Rider
    Username: Bushy Brow
    Name: Faina
    Gender: Female
    Age: 62
    Race: Elf
    Appearance: http://images.wikia.com/agarest/images/e/e0/CG_Fyuria.jpghttp://www.cosplayhouse.com/images/D/3-907.jpg
    Sword Name: Nuanen (Means 'Beautiful' in the Ancient Language)
    Info: When just one year old, Faina's mother left the Elven people on a journey while heavily pregnant. Faina suffering from illness at the time and being of such a young age had to be left behind while her Mother left on her journey. That was the last time Faina ever saw her mother (not that she can remember her), and she knows not of the fate of the child her mother carried either.
    Faina grew up in Du Weldanvarden without a family while being checked on by the other elves around her. However, she's gained a feeling of isolation from not knowing any family and as soon as she was able, she spent her days living alone even though the elves around her still insisted on popping in every now and then to see how she was fairing.
    Because of her nature, she tends to shy away from contact as she is used to being alone. Although, regardless of this, she still will speak her mind when she wishes to and often be very blunt with people at times.
    When alone, she would often read a lot and study various texts about the land and it's language as well as practising her use of magic. Her knowledge of the Ancient Language is a bit higher than most Elves of her age, even though she is still considered to be very young.
    When a Dragon Egg found it's time to be ferried around Du Weldenvarden, Faina reluctantly agreed to try and see if she was it's true partner (reluctant because she truly believed it would never choose her).
    After that, her life changed as she followed after Eragon to train as a Dragon Rider, although her usual isolation habits still stayed true - Excluding her Dragon who was stubborn enough to persist until he formed a close bond with her. Particularly when he saved her life on one rather dramatic occasion.
    As well as reading and magic practice, Faina now often practices her use of swordplay as well and enjoys to go flying with Azul.

    Appearance: http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs45/f/2009/098/3/c/Blue_Dragon_by_BenWootten.jpg
    Personality: As a male dragon, he holds a lot of pride in himself and his partner, albeit, not so much pride that it tips into arrogance. His bond at first with Faina was strained in a way. She did love him and raise him, but it was like she was almost scared to get too close to him because she had never had anyone in her life to get close to before.
    That changed when a particularly dramatic incident occurred and he ended up saving her life. Ever since then, they've been as close as a Rider and Dragon can be. Family in a true sense of the word.
    He can be pretty protective of his rider, and he also tends to try to spark a fuse and inspire and motivate her when she is down.
    One of his loves other than eating those rather tasty snails is to just go for a nice long flight with his rider upon his back. He's even content with just watching her read, or practice. As long as he is close to her, he feels he can be content with life.

    This is probably a very dumb question, and I might have missed this when reading, but is there an age limit to having a dragon?

    I don't think so, I didn't see anything about an age limit.

    From what I recall and know of when having talked to Machina (as well as self knowledge from the books and what he has actually written in the first paragraphs) is that the only limit on dragon age really is the fire breathing thing.
    A dragon can only breath fire if 6 months or older. Other than that, I'm not too sure.
    But take into account that in the books, dragons had become nearly extinct down to the last 4 or 5.
    Yeah there are more dragons now, but they wouldn't be that old just yet considering only 300 years have passed since the books ended, and no... the can be no secret 1000 year old dragons in this RP lol
    I can just picture Machina's reaction right now... XD

    Anyway, yeah.
    So... I believe they can't be older than 300 years old.
    And if you want them to breath fire, then they must be over 6 months old.
    Other than that, it's up to you I believe.
    As an example, my dragon is only 1 and a half months old.

    You'll have to change that bit. The dragon couldn't have been kidnapped from its parents because it wouldn't have been around its own parents. The way eggs are treated is that they get ferried about Alagaësia(land where everyone's character originates from) by the elves. Two at a time. The eggs choose a Rider, the Rider leaves Alagaësia with their dragon once they're ready and head to Edoc'sil which is far east of Alagaësia where all the other Dragon Riders are.

    So the Rider has to have their dragon hatch for them. Since there are no adult dragons in Alagaësia, the egg or hatching could not have been kidnapped. Every time a Dragon Rider comes to Edoc'sil, another egg is sent to Alagaësia for the cycle to start again. So...basically you need to just say that the egg came to your character via elves and it hatched for her.

    Other than that, it's nice to see someone else joining!

    There are no dumb questions!

    Unless you chose to have your character be a teacher, your dragon cannot approach the age of 300 so it'd have to be about...150 years or less. Keep in mind that Even a 3 year old dragon would be quite large. Of course, no dragon can exceed 300 just because it wouldn't make sense for a dragon to be older than Eragon's(the leader of the Dragon Riders).

    1. Exactly. Firebreathing only requires a dragon to be about 6 months old.
    2. Yup. No 1000 year old dragons!
    3. A month and a half old dragon would be the size of...a small horse? Maybe the size of a pony? >> Just a guess. Which is still pretty big considering how young it is.

    I didn't mean the dragon, I meant, do you have to be a certain age as an OC to have a dragon?

    Oh right. Sorry. I had read your post an hour ago but forgot that this was what you asked specifically. To answer you, not really. The moment your OC gets their dragon they begin to slow down their aging almost to a halt. What this means for you however...

    Let's say you have a dragon that's 10 years old. Your OC is 40 years old. This means your OC was 30 by the time he/she got his/her dragon. So your character would look about 30. Very few people would want that old of a character. So while there is no age limit, I'd prefer it if your character's age when he/she got a dragon was somewhere in their teens at the very least. Here's a simple formula to help you out:

    OC Age - Dragon's Age = Age OC became a Rider

    This means your dragon cannot be older than your OC. It wouldn't make sense anyways. XD You start counting the dragon's age from when they hatch. The age your OC got the dragon would be best left anywhere from 15 to their 20s IF THEY'RE HUMAN. If it's an elf I guess it'd be anywhere above their 20s.

    Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you were asking about the Dragon ages... *face palms* lol

    Oh well... what Machina and I posted should help any others who might have that question anyway. So I guess it isn't wasted lol

    OOC: Just to make this clear so there's no early mistakes, everyone will be in Edoc'sil where there are no crimes and it's all basically paradise and stuff. It's far away from Alagaësia where the Inheritance books take place where the only way to get in and out of Edoc'sil is by boat or dragon. ...Nobody but the Elders and Eragon are allowed to leave so don't expect to have your characters attempt to do so.

    Oh! And don't worry about making your posts this long. This'll probably be a one-time thing!

    Shing. Was the sound Merik's blade made, more or less, as he scraped a whetstone against the surface of the sword. It was a meaningless task as the enchanted blade of a Rider could never dull or lose its luster but it gave him peace of mind. This was how he meditated. As he made an attempt to further perfect his blade his mind reached out to his surroundings, brushing against the minds of everything around him from the oversized worms in the ground, to the sparse trees, to the hawks that flew overhead.

    The morning star, Aiedail, rose further to signal that it was coming close to the time when he normally started his lessons with the students. He dropped off from the thick branch he had been sitting on and plunged thirty feet or so before hitting the ground on his feet. Merik looked off towards the west, staring for a moment at the distant mountain range. Those mountains had marked the edge of Edoc'sil. They were far to steep for any race to climb and far too high to ascend over with magic. There was only one break in between the mountains which had been were Eragon and himself, along with the other elves, had first entered through. There was a loud thud as the ground shook, trees bending from the force of the oncoming wind as Randen landed behind him.

    "How was your hunt?" Merik asked curiously, turning towards his large dragon. In all of Edoc'sil there was merely a handful of dragons who matched such a sight as his dragon. So very few were larger.

    Uneventful. Randen spoke through their mental link, putting an extra emphasis on the word. Have you heard anything yet of him?

    Merik sheathed his sword, staring up at the dragon as he thought back to the last time he had seen Risit. "No. It's been two days." Risit, one of the two elders, had been vanishing a good deal in the past few months. The last time Merik had seen the elder, Risit had been on Vanilor's back heading towards the edge of Edoc'sil. "In any case, it's not our place to question his actions. Come now, we can't worry the students too can we?"

    I wasn't worried. Came Randen's low voice followed by a grumble which caused the ground to vibrate.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    'Evarinya.' Eragon's voice was projected from where he stood all they way to the elder. 'I wish to speak with you.' He said this in the Ancient Language so that she would understand the importance of his contacting her. Eragon refused to say anymore as to avoid anyone from catching anything that he would say. He clasped his hands behind his back, pacing back and forth in the large hollowed out tree he used to speak with the elders and the teachers of Edoc'sil. He preferred speaking in person here because of the heavy amounts of wards he had placed on it to keep anyone from spying in on anything that would be said from within. It was the largest tree in Edoc'sil, the hollowed out trunk being large enough to house even Saphira, his own dragon.
    As for where Saphira was...She, like Vanilor and the oldest dragons, had to fly far east just to find anything large enough to satisfy their hunger. Often Saphira would tell him tales of gigantic snails larger than four horses that lived in such areas. More than once Eragon had come with Saphira out of curiosity only to be nearly overcome by such large creatures. 'If I wasn't a Dragon Rider, I'd probably be a Snail Rider.' He joked to himself. Eragon took in a deep breath and moved one hand to Brisingr, his sword as he thought over a more serious matter. 'There just can't be...a traitor...'
    Elysia lay where she had been for the past few hours... letting her senses mingle with the nature all around her as she took in every single little detail from the largest bird down to the tiniest ant. She was in a state of nirvana... completely lost to the world around her, her senses as far stretched as she could manage without straining herself. This wasn't training or anything, she couldn't be bothered to be honest, but the feeling of this meditation exercise relaxed her a great deal along with the feeling of being immersed in nature, probably to do with the Elf half of her blood.. She was so taken up in it, she didn't even notice the passage of time until her tranquillity was interrupted by a voice in her mind.
    'It's almost time for lessons to begin, little one.'
    ...Elysia's eyes remained closed, although through her senses, she could still feel her dragon, her partner and closest companion just as well as sight would have managed. She could feel every breath, every beat and every emotion in her other half, and vice versa. She could just as easily tell the bemused expression the young red dragon was emitting from watching her with her head tilted to the side slightly.
    'Little one?' Elysia responded through their mental link. 'You're not that big yourself, Rubei.' she teased the dragon for it was true... Rubei right now was just barely bigger than a horse.
    'Let me guess... you heard Master Saphira call Master Eragon that didn't you?'
    Rubei snorted in defiance and the air from her snort blew the white sheet that covered Elysia's bare body clean away and into the distance. Instead of answering Elysia's question she countered with her own. 'Why do you insist on not wearing clothes when you meditate?' she asked it, despite having asked such a thing before on a few other occasions.
    'I dunno... it's more comfy and I feel more... natural I guess.' she muttered, not yet covering her modesty. She could sense that no one was around to spy on her, and she would be able to tell if someone was trying to scry her with magic too. So she didn't really care, not that she would all that much anyway.
    She finally opened her eyes and glanced at the tunic a metre or so away from her, casually flung over a branch. She slowly stood up, feeling the fresh grass tickle at her bare back and thighs.
    Going over to her clothes she looked at Rubei as she began to change. 'I can't be bothered to go to lessons today.'
    'Marik won't be pleased.' Rubei reminded her, while holding up a wing to shield the changing Half-breed girl.
    'Well... meh to him. Let's go for a swim or something instead.'
    Rubei made a noise that was like a sigh in her own mind, not that she minded either. The feeling of cool spring water over her scales was pleasant, and even though she didn't feel like slacking off from training all that much, she didn't mind as long as she was with her Rider. As long as they were together. Everything would be fine.
    Evarinya stirred from her meditation when she heard the voice in her head. She smiled, no fear or weak anticipation clouding her thoughts; whenever she heard from Eragon, it was always for a good thing, and she knew exactly where to meet him.
    She was sitting on Mizuiro, balanced perfectly between her mid-spine and the joint of her wing. Their minds were joined perfectly through the meditation process, and they were wordlessly sharing memories as they usually did. No matter what the time of day it was, they always made the time to complete this exercise; it was what she taught the young Riders, although Evarinya didn't really consider it a "lesson." For her, meditating with Mizuiro was just a fun, exciting part of their days; they would laugh at each other's memories, her elf-like experiences making Mizuiro chuckle lightly, and her dragon's excitement at a mere hunting kill made her giggle. Their more-serious, mind-filled discussions helped teach other their strengths, weaknesses, and details of each other's subconscious thoughts that neither had realized before.
    Therefore, being brought out of her meditation bothered her a little bit, but Evarinya smiled and stood lightly on Mizuiro's back. Ready, then? she asked her dragon, not feeling the need to speak the word.
    Of course, Mizuiro answered in her usual soft, sweet tone. She waited patiently for Evarinya to strap her legs into the stirrups of her saddle, even though, with the elf's quick speed, it only took a few seconds. She did not need her Rider's mental or verbal remark to know she was ready to fly; once she was settled, they took off in a flurry of dust and wind. It didn't take Mizuiro long to land not far from the hollow trunk where Eragon stood; she knew the place very well from past meetings.
    Evarinya was off her dragon in a moment, wanting to make sure she arrived with the correct, prompt timing that she thought should be expected. With the traditions elvish greeting, she began, "Eragon-elda," she began, a small smile on her face. "How can I help you?"
    Eira was up hours before the morning star showed itself above the mountain tops; she was already awake, clean, dressed, armored, and practicing on her own. It was hard to see with the lack of light in the time before dawn, but she preferred to start her days this way. So many wanted to sleep in late, getting much more rest than necessary (in her opinion) and she could not understand this concept; why waste time lying, doing nothing, when in the morning, there was no one around to bother her in the training areas?
    She knew she was different; being related to their leader through her family's proud, ancient bloodline was something that made her stand out on its own... not to mention that fact that she refused to work primarily with a sword like most other Riders. Eira could understand the constant teasing of the fact that she used her entire name when being introduced, as well as knowing her family's history to the day. She was used to the most common question of, "if Roran Garrowson's blood runs so strongly in your veins, where is your hammer?" To that, she rarely replied with words. The truth was, she'd tried, but her small, female figure couldn't handle the weapon as well as another male warrior could.
    The bottom line was, she loved her bow.
    That much is obvious, Amaterasu butted into her thoughts, making Eira loosen the tension in her drawn bow, aimed at a dummy nearly sixty feet away, and smirk. It is plain to me and your teachers that you are the best archer on this island. This early practice is not necessary.
    Eira laughed, hunching back on the balls of her feet, laying her bow across her thighs. "Now that's just silly! I'm good, but not good enough. I'll keep practicing till my arms fall off, Ama... you know that!"
    The dragon snorted haughtily, a deep, growl-like grumble that echoed and vibrated in his throat. This arrogant, high-spoken mannerism was something Eira heard very often. The other students will arrive soon, no doubt... get in another few shots before those weaklings arrive.
    "It's almost time, Airi Omorma."
    Airi was walking around Edoc'sil with Jerrod. She arrived there by dragon about 13 minutes ago.
    "What do you mean by 'almost? It's been more than 14 years than when I started and I haven't found a single clue about my parents' death." Airi replied, a bit furious.
    "You'll understand soon."
    "Whatever." Airi rolled her eyes and continued walking without a sound.
    "You know, the voice could be correct." Jerrod looked straight into Airi's deep sea eyes.
    "I Just want to have a peaceful walk with no 'oh, something's going to come to you really soon'." Airi ran off while Jerrod followed.
    "That hurt.."
    "I don't know you, so I don't really care that much if it hurts you or not."
    "But you will soon, I know."
    A loud sigh escaped Joan's lips as she threw herself back, laying on an open field. She threw pieces of grass she had been plucking off to the side, a frown formed on her lips. She was up for not too long and was practically ready to go back to sleep. Her appearance gave the impression she was just a young adult, but her actual age was completely different. "I think I'm the oldest out of all these people," she muttered quietly. At times she felt as if she had enough energy to stay up all day, however, other times she felt far too exhausted to even do anything. She slowly sat up and pulled her knees up to her chest, hugging her legs close. A frowned crossed her lips once more as she felt a rather warm breeze hit her against her body. Slowly looking over her shoulder, Joan saw her dragon, Orchid, laying right behind her. "No need to breathe on me."
    I got your attention though. A small smile crossed Joan's lip before she rose up to her feet, facing her beloved dragon. "Breathing on me isn't the only way to catch my attention." A quiet scoff came from the dragon as she rose up on her feet, causing Joan to lean her head back to look up at her. We should get going. Joan nodded her head in response and looked away from Orchid, turning her attention towards their destination. "I don't want to be late," Joan muttered, rubbing her eyes as she began to walk.
    Eragon had his back towards Evarinya when she and her dragon entered. He felt the blade at his side and fingered the sapphire on the pommel of Brisingr before turning around. "Atra esterní ono thelduin, Evarinya." Eragon responded to the elder's greeting. Without a pause he continued, "Recently word has reached me that the last two Riders in Alagaësia have been slain." His voice lowered as he kept his gaze away from Evarinya. "Those two were there to watch over Alagaësia in my stead..." Eragon lifted a hand to his eyes, rubbing them as he took a brief moment to himself so he would keep his composure.
    "They were two of the most powerful in our order, even in comparison to both you and Risit. None but another Rider could have felled them." This time he looked Evarinya in the eye. "I have gone over all the possible ways they could have been overpowered and only one thing can come to mind." His voice darkened as he continued. "I suspect that it truly was another Rider. Only an elder or one of the teachers here could have had the power to do such an act." Eragon shook his head slowly, reluctant to accept the thought. "I know that it was not you, Evarinya. I already know where you were when the two were killed. Still...that leaves others unaccounted for..." He trailed off, sighing out deeply.
    'We haven't stopped once on this flight, are you sure you're fine?' The Rider sent his thoughts to his dragon before shouting out loud, "Get out of clouds, you oversized lizard. I can't keep myself warm with magic in the sate I'm in!"
    A gigantic mighty dragon broke through the clouds and let loose a torrent of white flames from a small gap in his jaws, a hint of both pink and blue showing in the brilliant fire. Don't use that tone with me. I'm no hatchling. My name is that of the mightiest dragon of old! Vanilor's defiant voice rattled in the head of Risit leaving the Rider to laugh at the dragon.
    'Don't let Saphira hear that.' Risit pulled at one of Vanilor's spikes on his neck, though he had to use both arms due to their size, and with surprising strength forced the dragon to veer right. 'Come on, I see Edoc'sil. I could use a rest.'
    What of Eragon? Do you not wish to inform him of our travels? Vanilor questioned, his head turning so that a huge eye was peaking over at his Rider.
    'No. I'd rather keep it a surprise.' Risit grinned to himself as Vanilor began to dive towards the ground. It was then that he spotted something. Another Rider and dragon. They were both grounded and unfamiliar to Risit.
    'You two. Dragon. Rider.'
    Risit's voice was transmitted to both Airi's and Jerrod's minds and amplified to sound somewhat intimidating. Though if that wasn't, Risit's much larger dragon would more than do the job. Risit and Vanilor circled overhead the two newcomers.
    'I've not seen either of you before. Would you care to follow Vanilor and I to introduce you to the Order's leader?'
    Evarinya was about to reply with another standard greeting, but stopped herself mid-stride, shocked at her fellow Rider's sudden words. She listened silently, clasping both her hands over her chest in anticipation, her fingers laced tightly together. Feeling the confusion and sadness in Muzuiro as well, she respectfully bowed her head; she could tell that the eye-contact was bothering Eragon, and she did not want to upset him.
    "This is wrong," was the first thing she said after thinking for a moment. "The abomination of the murder of a Rider hasn't happened for... hundreds of years."
    Not to mention the dragons of these Riders, Muzuiro interjected, both in Evarinya's and Eragon's minds. Her tone was respectful and woeful like Evarinya's, but the elf could feel the anger underneath as well.
    Evarinya nodded swiftly, a sad, thoughtful look in her eyes. "May I ask, Könungr-Vergandí," she began quietly, "... who isn't accounted for?"
    As well as the fate of the Rider's dragons, Muzuiro added quietly.
    Eira sighed at her dragon's usual, arrogant comment. She had learned not to argue with him when it came to modesty, even when it was about her own. Swallowing a retort, Eira strung her bow once more, pulling the string back until the feathers of the shaft tickled her right cheekbone. She shut her eyes for a moment, focusing her breathing and clearing her mind of all but her target. When she opened them again, it was only half-way, in an almost comical squint that was locked onto the dummy sixty feet from her.
    Just below the collar, she thought as she aimed. You might be good at aiming, but you're still a small girl; that recoiling bow will pop your shot up whether you want it to or not. Placing the tip of her arrow underneath the dummy's throat, Eira exhaled through her mouth... and fired. Almost a full second later, she heard the familiar, satisfying sound of her mark hitting home: steel arrow against burlap sack and straw. The noise made her smile, and she felt Amaterasu's pride instantly. That, above anything else, made her want to be even better.
    "C'mon, keep walking! You're gonna make us late!" Styrke urged Lyrth along. He was the only one of the two excited to start real lessons. He wanted to meet everyone and show them all how great he was. His black scales didn't reflect much of the sunlight that leaked through the trees. Lyrth walked next to him, arms folded out of insecurity. He just nodded to his dragon and tried a smile. He needed to be more confident like Styrke was. But he just didn't know how. "Don't be all gloomy!" Styrke nudged Lyrth's shoulder with his nose, making the young man stumble. "We'll get there first and make a good impression." The dragon had a small skip in his step.
    "Alright, alright. Just don't go showboating, ok? I really don't want to draw us any attention," Lyrth put his hand on Styrke's neck to try to get the dragon to calm down. They came to a mostly cleared space and were actually first. Lyrth's heart sunk. Being first meant having the attention on him, and he wasn't ready for that. He stayed close to Skyrke, his hand still on the warm scales of the small dragon's neck. His dark brown eyes were locked on the elf and dragon before him, but Styrke's own red ones were darting all over the place as he tried to take everything in.
    "Ok..." Airi never saw the rider or his dragon either, so it was a little strange for that to occour to her so fast since arriving at the place. "...I'll go."
    Airi sighed and continued while thinking about two things:
    1. Her future.
    2.One girl she was friends with a long time ago, Miku.
