I ran into this man. Spoiler No? Well I did and I am literally still buzzing and it was about a month ago.
Not sure how big this group is outside of the UK but I think they're brilliant, they have a very folky feel that's just full of energy and soul (the only way to describe it really). I loved their last album "Babel" because of this fact but they've just released a single that'll be in their new album and they've said they've "ditched the banjos" which is what I loved about them. So I listened to the new track and it was good, but not why I like Mumford and Sons. Does anyone else agree/disagree/no idea who this band is? xD For comparison: From Babel: Their new song, "Believe": Not saying it's bad, just my opinion is it's not as good but everyone is raving about it. I guess this is one change of sound that I'm not huge on. Opinions?

I finished Attack on Titan... shhh, I know I'm like a year late to the party but I got quite addicted and finished it within about 4 days. Also, I've been at uni for ages now and the main annoyance with it is the fire alarm constantly going off... especially in the middle of the night (happened once 3 times in one night... I could have cried). But yesterday I decided to attempt an early night which was quickly disturbed by loads of coughing outside my flat, I went out to see what was going on and they were complaining of something in the air making them cough, that was when the fire alarm went off. The guy claimed that there was a potential chemical spillage and so evacuated us and it could take up to an hour. The whole of my house (about 180 people) were then stuck outside in the cold at about 12:30 at night for a while. Thankfully I was back in bed by 1am as they found out it was just pepper spray but MOTHER OF GOD WHO HAS PEPPER SPRAY!? AND WHY WERE THEY USING IT D: So that's basically my life, how's everyone else doing? I haven't been around much as of late due to trying to settle into uni :3
So I work in a Wetherspoons kitchen (for those not in Britain, it's one of the biggest pub chains in the UK) which is fun but since I started 9 months ago 5 people have left and 2 have joined and with it being summer people are going on holidays or whatever else. Our kitchen can accomodate about 10 staff members... next week we have 3 fully trained kitchen staff. I will basically be living at work next week, I am going to be knackered ;-; and I will leave soon to go to uni, they are going to be screwed 0.o This is why I haven't been on much, so how goes everyone else's wonderful summers?

BUT THEY ARRIVED : D Spoiler Fun story, tickets went on sale 5th July at the St David's hall box office. I got up early, got my mums laptop (my computer's internet is far too unstable), got Big Ben's time up on screen so I could be exact in my time to call them. My nerves were through the roof but come 10am I rang and rang and didn't get through for 2 hours, I had more success with booking the tickets online. The servers were overloaded with people- they were so slow but I got through all the stages of selecting tickets, making an account and I was about to pay for them when the server overloaded and kicked me out. By the time I got back to my basket my amazing seats had gone ;-; Someone had already got them, I continued to ring the box office for a while until I finally got through to an automated voice telling me the Doctor Who tickets had sold out. I was so close and they were taken from me ;-; so I emailed the box office asking what had happened, I knew what had happened but I just hoped that there was an error. I expected to hear nothing back, I was on my own and wasn't going to the world premiere. The next day I got a phone call from the box office asking if I still wanted to go and would like 2 restricted view seats. I feel like the luckiest person in the world right now, they couldn't have had many spare tickets but needless to say I am row D... I don't know how restricted the view will be from 4 rows back 0.o Still, I'd rather see half the screen than not at all.

Anyway, here is a list of the changes that have been made for the better: Artist subsection Probably the biggest of them all, this has been needed for so long! Simply speaking, it's a subsection where you can discuss other artist's and artwork besides your own that has had some effect on you whether it's inspiration or you just liked it. This is the place for proper art discussion and you don't have to be a huge art head to post something, art is different to everyone and can be interpreted differently and it can effect us all. For more information about what goes in this section please have a quick glance over the rules and get cracking! Loss of “Photography” and “Traditional art” subsections With the addition of the artist subsection, I thought it may become quite crowded and since prefixes can do the same job it seemed logical to merge them into the main forum. This also eliminated the constant confusion about what goes where and posting in the wrong section, it should be simpler now. So basically, all Photography, Traditional and graphical art go into the main section. New threads! Beginners thread: I thought I'd put together a little something to help out anyone interested in beginning their journey through graphical art. It includes a small “Starter pack” which is a collection of useful resources that could help you out if you are just starting out and have no idea where to go from there. It's also a place for seasoned veterans to give their advice etc. Revamped Tutorials thread: A list of all the tutorials you lovely members have posted over the years, split into “GIMP”, “Photoshop” and “Broken links”. For beginners Hello! Have you ever looked at people's amazing signatures and just wished you could make something like that? Well this thread is here to help start you on your journey to that place! Sadly, it won't just come to you immediately and you will make pieces that, if they were physical, you would throw at a wall and set fire to them, but it's all part of the learning process and it's always great to see people starting out! So here's to you, whether you've tried it before and don't know where to go or are just interested in the art in general, please I hope this helps. So this thread is specifically designed for anyone who is just starting out and has no idea where to actually begin. This thread is open so you can give advice to beginners so if you know something, a link, a piece of information, that would have really helped you out when you started then post it here so anyone can look at it. If you are a beginner and you have a small question you would like to ask then please post a new thread in the graphic help section as that is exactly what that section is for : D Also, please check out the FAQ (in progress and coming soon) as that could answer a question you have, otherwise post a new thread. Firstly, you will need a program- now Paint is always an option but it is incredibly basic and not designed for high level signature making, I would recommend GIMP for beginners and then Photoshop for anyone looking to have a better range of options and tools but it can be costly to get legally (full list here). So basically, I have compiled a small starter pack for you out of resources I have collected and made in my journey through graphical design that I hope you will find useful, in contains: Renders that I have cut out myself (I realise the things you will want to make will use images and characters that you like so feel free to search for them: Planetrenders is a great place to start but I put these here just to help) Fractals and C4D's (these are just general effects to enhance your piece- they tend to be used in almost every piece so experiment with them) Brushes: Splatter brushes are always useful Smudging brushes to make smudging more interesting but default brushes are also just as good Effect brushes Signature backgrounds (There are ways to make your own background but here's some that can add quite a lot to your piece without much effort) Text file explaining how to install brushes DOWNLOAD (If this link is broken then please contact me and I will get it fixed ASAP) (Requires Winrar (it's free) to unzip the file) Now my advice is EXPERIMENT! That is the best thing you can do, make stuff you hate, I could post a huge array of pieces I have made and hated but I have learned a lot from them. Also, DON'T FEEL DISCOURAGED IF YOU DON'T GET IT RIGHT! It can be such a ego killer when you can't perfect that piece you were working on or it's just not coming out as you pictured it, don't worry- this in no way makes you a bad graphic artist, it just means you have come across something you can't do. When I say it happens to everyone, I am sure that is not an exaggeration so please don't feel discouraged, try again, post your creations in the Graphic art section and ask for feedback to help you improve. Tutorials are also a great way to learn! So go searching for them and try them out, you will pick up some great skills.
